This is what I’ve done —
Adam Nelson is a film director and screenwriter whose creative voice is shaped by a global outlook and curiosity, an upbringing in theatre, and a passion for cinema history. He is regularly drawn to complex narratives that explore the human condition. Often taking form in understated, carefully mapped character dramas staged against textured visual landscapes, Adam’s films are defined by a fundamentally personal voice that skews toward a resilience of human spirit. As a filmmaker, Adam has been fortunate to travel the world to share and create stories that have gone on to garner international accolade, including multiple Television Emmys, Cannes Lions and film festival jury awards. He has recently directed works shot across Los Angeles, New York City, London, Toronto, Vancouver, Budapest, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand.
This is what I’m doing —
Adam is developing the feature film, Care a narrative drama based on a memoir by late activist Ady Barkan, and will star Freddie Highmore and Dakota Fanning. Adam penned the adaption and will direct. Care is Executive Produced by Killer Films’ Christine Vachon (Past Lives, Carol, First Reformed) and produced by Randy Manis (Kill Your Darlings) and Neal Dodson (Margin Call, A Most Violent Year). Adam also collaborates with Academy Award-winning producer John Carls (Where the Wild Things Are, Rango) to develop a slate of animated and live-action feature films. Between narrative film projects, Adam tells stories for iconic brands such as BMW, Smokey Bear, Adidas, HSBC and others.
This is what inspires me —
Crafting meaningful stories that: explore the profound mystery of what it means to be human, bring people together, and cultivate understanding and community; Technical craft and artistry; Organizations that fight for causes like this (or this); Elia Kazan and John Ford movie marathons; Cinema history, hiking, snowboarding, travel, live theatre, and music.
